kMcDiva as Voice Over Talent

I think one of the greatest things one can do to ensure success in life is to pay close attention to the reoccurring themes of one's life. I'm learning to do just that.

Throughout my adult life I have consistently received compliments on my speaking voice and delivery. Over the phone, during public speaking engagements, in person - it never fails.

I never paid too much mind until recently at the Toast to Jamaica Independence building lighting ceremony at the iconic Miami Tower, a producer from TeleAmerica, a local Caribbean broadcasting network, stopped me to ask if I did voice over work.

As I've been asked that a million times before I quickly smiled and responded "No." The producer went on to describe being taken by my "charming voice" and further described my vocals as light and inspiring, attractive, sensuous, inquisitive, friendly and mostly fun.

"Your voice makes me want to listen for more," he said. He ended the conversation advising me to take care of my voice and not to lose the genuineness in my delivery.

Now normally you know I am a skeptic, always considering the ulterior motives of others, but the more I thought about not only what the producer said, but how he said it with conviction and expertise, the more the idea began to resonate with me.

I thought about it a while longer and decided the best course of action would be to tap my network of folks in the industry, pull together some scripts and a demo and see where it goes from there.

Here's a really rough cut from my very first go as voice over talent - spoken word style: [kMcDiva VO Test Demo]

More to come, stay tuned.
